Interested in Waterlogged Wood Conservation?
Check out our SP-11 product formulated specifically for treating archaeological wooden artifacts. This product was developed 23 years ago, in 1994 when we were approached by the Maine State Museum to formulate an alternative product to using polyethylene glycol, also called PEG. See the SP-11 product page for all the advantages of using it over PEG as well as case studies done on waterlogged wooden artifacts.
Why choose our Leather Care products?
We know there are many products on the market to choose from for your leather care needs. Many of the leather conditioners on the market today use sulfated oils, which can build acid in the leather, no matter how much they are buffered. Other products are also made from neutral and sulfated oils which leave leather sticky, oily and dark. Although it keeps the leather supple, these oils also retain moisture which can cause hydrolyzation and mold growth under humid conditions.
Our leather care products are made from the finest raw materials available. The oils are first oxidized to eliminate darkening and processed twice to remove any double bonds which can cause acid deterioration. This gives the oils an anionic charge which prevents them from leaching out or migrating in the leather. The solvents we use do not contain sulphur, which can cause rotting of stitching – this is important for leather restoration and conservation.
Our leather cleaners and conditioners will not darken leather, not leave it feeling oily, will not oxidize and are deep penetrating. The products also do not contain humectants such as glycerin or glycol, which encapsulate moisture and lead to mold growth and “sticky” leather.
We have more than 40 years of experience in the leather care and wood treatment industry and gladly offer free technical advice to those customers who need it. If you have questions as to which product to use or how to apply it to your items, contact us via email or phone: 303.642.3060.
