It’s that merry time of year when we bring the woods right into our homes in the form of Christmas trees! It’s become a tradition of many to save a “ ” or “ ” from their Christmas Tree, to commemorate that year’s festivities or use in craft projects. A favorite new trend of ours is using to make Christmas ornaments, perfect for gifting, using as gift tags, or for hanging on your own tree. Ornaments can be drawn on, handpainted, or burned with imagery. The slices have a wonderful rustic wood vibe you'll love.
But will these slices be well preserved for next year?
The best way to protect your Ornaments from cracking and is to treat them with Pentacryl right after they are cut. Pentacryl is a stabilizer for freshly cut, or "green" . It will keep from , cracking, or warping as it dries out over time.
For small slices, simply soak them in this green stabilizer and then dry them slowly. For larger pieces, you may choose to brush on multiple coats of Pentacryl until the before drying them. Once the treated has thoroughly dried, it is ready for sanding, painting, staining, -burning and/or sealing.
